Asian banks thrive without Diamond’s ‘charisma premium’
SO LAST WEEK Bob Diamond quits Barclays and Tom Cruise gets divorce papers from Katie Holmes. There is no connection between these two events other than that they involve two charismatic men and “cults”. Alright, Scientology, in which Mr Cruise is firmly ensconced, might not bear an obvious comparison to the British bank. But you could argue that both are equally tightly knit around the personalities of charismatic individuals.
