Ash Shah
Barclays
Akshay Shah is a managing director in Barclays’ private placement group based in London, responsible for the origination, structuring and distribution of private placements with a particular focus on UK, German and Southern European credits. Shah joined Barclays in 1998. Prior to joining the private placement team in 2002, he spent five years in the investment banking division focusing on the telecoms and technology and oil and gas sectors. Before joining Barclays, Shah worked at Merrill Lynch.

Richard Waddington
Commerzbank
Richard Waddington is a managing director in Commerzbank’s loans group. He is responsible for Commerzbank’s Schuldschein activities and is also head of loan sales for the bank’s London operations. He has been with Commerzbank/Dresdner Kleinwort for seven years. Prior to that, he was at Royal Bank of Canada for 10-years in a number of different roles but he was latterly in the loan syndications team focusing on infrastructure, project and cross-over transactions.

Nicholas Pfaff
ICMA
Nicholas Pfaff chairs the Pan-European Private Placement Working Group. He is a senior director in the Market Practice and Regulatory Policy team of the International Capital Market Association and leads ICMA’s Paris office. He co-ordinates a number of other ICMA committees such as the Public Sector Issuer Forum and the Green Bond Principles. Pfaff has extensive international experience in investment banking, capital markets and development banking. He has worked previously at BNP Paribas, Goldman Sachs and the EBRD.

Emilie Wong
ING
Emilie Wong is head of the EMTN private placement desk at ING. She joined the bank in 2012 to co-ordinate globally the bank’s distribution platforms in Europe, Eastern Europe and Asia. Prior to joining ING, she worked with a Japanese investment bank in London for over five years where she held several positions on the structured PP desk and in DCM origination covering French, Dutch, Swiss and North African SSA and FIG clients.

Calum MacPhail
M&G
Calum Macphail is head of private placements at M&G Investments. Prior to joining M&G, Macphail worked in the credit department of Dresdner Kleinwort Benson and was previously a supervisory analyst at the Bank of England within the UK banks division. He started his career on a graduate-training programme at the Bank of Scotland.

Jason Rothenberg
MetLife Private Capital Investors
Jason Rothenberg is a director at MetLife Private Capital Investors. Having joined the firm in 2002, he is responsible for heading the firm’s MetLife’s London-based private placement team covering the USPP markets in the UK and mainland Europe. He manages a team of six investment professionals as well covering his own portfolio of credits. Prior to joining MetLife, Rothenberg held similar positions with Principal Capital Management and Orix Financial Services.

Brian Bates
Morrison & Foerster
Brian Bates is a partner in the capital markets group of MoFo based in London, representing issuers and lenders in the US marketplace across a range of markets including bank syndications, private debt and equity placements, various bank finance products, high-yield, mezzanine and LBO financings. He began practicing law at Chapman and Cutler in 1987 and was hired as a partner in 1995 by Bell, Boyd & Lloyd. He joined Morrison & Foerster in 2001.

Alain Gallois
Natixis
Alain Gallois has been global head of fixed-income at Natixis since February 2015, incorporating sales, trading and debt origination. He started his career at SNCF in 1992, moving to Compagnie Parisienne de Réescompte two years later. He joined Natexis Banques Populaires in 1999 to run bond origination, becoming chief origination co-ordinator for debt and equity and then head of primary markets within the fixed-income and commodities business of Natixis. Before his most recent appointment, Gallois was global head of the debt platform and head of fixed-income and treasury sales.

Stuart Hitchcock
NYL Private Investors
Stuart Hitchcock is a managing director and head of UK and Europe for NYL Private Capital Investors. Based in London, he is responsible for investment origination and portfolio management for European corporates. Hitchcock has 14 years of investment and banking experience. Prior to joining New York Life Investments, he spent a decade at RBS both in the UK and US helping European businesses across a broad range of sectors raise long term capital.
