Josh Weismer has joined Mizuho Americas as head of US equity capital markets, the bank said in a statement today.

Weismer joins from Scotiabank, where he also served as head of US ECM.

He will be based in New York and report to Andrew Dewing, the head of banking.

“Capital markets activity among our specialty areas of TMT, healthcare, energy, utilities, industrials and consumer is growing quickly for us,” Dewing said in a statement.

“Josh brings the experience, knowledge, and relationships to create funding solutions for companies looking to leverage opportunities in the markets.”

Mizuho, part of Japan’s Mizuho Financial, acted as a bookrunner on 12 US equity and equity-linked offerings this year, gaining league table credit for US$1bn of proceeds, according to Refinitiv data.

The firm rose 13 places to the 21st spot on the US equity and equity-linked league table and worked on US$1bn-plus raises for First Data, Consolidated Edison and Digital Realty Trust.

Weismer replaces Derek Dillon, who was appointed to the role in late 2014.
