Citigroup has promoted Christian Anderson and Stefan Wintels to lead its global financial institutions coverage, as part of several changes in leadership in its banking, capital markets and advisory division.

Anderson and Wintels will take the position left vacant by the appointment of Peter Babej as chief executive of Citi’s Asia-Pacific region in October. Babej had been sole head of the FIG group since 2017.

FIG is typically the most important industry for investment bank revenues, accounting for more business and often linking with corporate, technology and other areas.

Anderson will remain in New York, according to a memo to staff on Tuesday seen by IFR. He is co-head of the global asset managers group, and before that was head of diversified financials and speciality finance in FIG.

Wintels will be based in Frankfurt and London. He is the bank's country officer for Germany and BCMA head for Germany and Austria. Wintels was previously co-head of FIG for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Citi said Wintels has also been instrumental in setting up Citi’s European Union broker-dealer, where he was CEO of Citigroup Global Markets Europe.

Wintels will remain BCMA head of Germany/Austria, until a successor is named, when Wintels will shift to vice chairman for Germany. Stefan Hafke has been appointed interim country chief for Germany in addition to his role as head of corporate banking for Germany and Austria.

Citi said John Eydenberg will co-head its global asset managers group alongside Anthony Diamandakis, following Anderson's move, according to a separate memo.

GAM is responsible for BCMA coverage of private equity, infrastructure, sovereign wealth and pension fund clients.

Eydenberg is vice chairman of BCMA, after joining Citi last year from Deutsche Bank, where he was most recently chairman of the Americas. He spent 18 years at Deutsche Bank, including as vice chairman of its corporate and investment bank in the Americas and co-head of Americas investment banking coverage.

Diamandakis will relocate to New York as part of the changes. He has been co-head of GAM since 2017.

Brad Coleman will continue as chairman of the GAM group.

Citi also said it has promoted Jack Paris and Philip ten Bosch to co-heads of global power investment banking in BCMA, as part of a push to expand its coverage of the industry.

Joe Sauvage will become chairman of global power.

Paris was previously head of power investment banking for North America and ten Bosch had the same position for EMEA and Asia-Pacific.
